Welcome to Third Grade!  I am very excited for our upcoming school year and cannot wait to meet you at our Open House, Friday, August 13, 2010!

Goals for the Year

Goals for the 2010 - 2011 School Year:

- Meet reading fluency goals of 110 WCPM (Words correctly read per minute)

- Master Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20

- Master Multiplication facts 0 - 9

- Discover regions of the world and the landmarks that they are made of

- Explore the farthest regions of our solar system

....just to name a few!

About the Teacher

Hi!  My name is Patricia Miller.  I teach Third Grade at the Academy of Dover!  I have been part of the Academy since 2007.   I moved to Dover in 2006 after graduating college.  I graduated from Centenary College of New Jersey, with a Batchelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education / History and a Minor in English.  I am certified to instruct Elementary Education in grades K - 6.  Before coming to AOD I taught third grade in Wilmington and also served as a substitute for grades K - 8.

If you are joining us in Third Grade this year, make sure to read at least 10 minutes a day to keep your fluency up!  You can read to yourself, a family member, or even a pet!  Just make sure you get in your reading!

Class News

During the 2009 - 2010 School year third graders: shared "Popcorn and Poetry", Explored the Human Body, Compared original books to the movies, Mastered Multiplication Facts, and even found time to travel to Slaughter Beach to investigate rocks and minerals! 

I can't wait to see what we can accomplish this year!

Classroom Rules and Expectations

 Mrs. Miller's Classroom Rules:

5. Be responsible for yourself.

 6. Walk in the hall. 

7. Be patient in line.  8. Play safely.

9. Keep hands and legs to yourself.

10. TRY YOUR BEST!

Student Behavior Expectations:

Student’s behavior in the classroom should be a positive, a ready to learn attitude.  If a child’s behavior becomes disruptive to themselves or others, they will receive a consequence for misbehavior.  To remedy misbehavior in the classroom I will be following the Academy of Dover’s Positive Behavior System or PBS.  I use the code below to record student behavior.

Gold = Excellent Behavior # 0, Green = Good Behavior # 1, Yellow = Warning # 2 (Loose 5 minutes of outdoor recess), Blue = A Phone Call Home # 3 (Loose 10 minutes of outdoor recess), Red = An Office Referral # 4 (Loose all of recess).
