Mrs. Doyle's 2nd Grade Class
Notes For Parents
English/Language Arts:
- Reading - We will begin our new story "The Great Ball Game" on Monday, November 7th and focus on "expression"
- Phonics - We will be working with the r-controlled vowel /ar/
- Grammar - We will continue working with Proper Nouns
Science:
- In Science we are studying "Insects" and their life cycles. Students have been observing their mealworms and waxworms and we will soon introduce them to silkworms. The students are having a lot of fun observing and naming their insects!
Math:
- We have finished our review of single digit addition and are now learning how subtraction is the inverse operation to addition. Please continue to help your child practice their addition/subtraction facts by quizing them at home, in the car, or at the dinner table!
Independent Reading:
- Students should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes per day at home. We have S.S.R (Silent Sustained Reading) time at school and the students really enjoy having the quiet time to sit and read their library books...please help support their love of reading while they're at home as well!
**snacks - the school supplies a healthy snack to the children on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If you are able to help out by sending in snacks for our class on Mondays or Fridays, we would really appreciate it. (We have 25 students in our class.)
